UPCOMING SHELTER EVENTS

microchip eventmicrochip

FREE Microchipping Event for our City Residents and our Contracting Cities

  • From July 1st-3rd we will be offering free microchips to anyone who lives in the City of San Bernardino, Colton, Grand Terrace, Fontana, Loma Linda, or Rialto.
  • We will be asking for proof of residency, and a valid government ID.
  • No appointment necessary. Dogs must be on a leash, and cats must be in a carrier for safety.
  • Hours: 11am-4pm; Wednesday: 11am-5pm
  • Don't forget to register the microchip and update it anytime your contact information changes!

Q: How old does my pet have to be microchipped?

A: Kittens and puppies can be microchipped as early as 6 to 8 weeks of age.

Q: What does a microchip do for my pet?

A: A microchip provides a permanent form of identification for your pet. It's a small device, about the size of a grain of rice, implanted under your pet’s skin. Each microchip has a unique number registered in a database with your contact details. If your pet is lost, this number can be scanned by veterinarians or shelters to help reunite you with your pet. Microchips are durable, do not cause allergic reactions, and are crucial for identification in cases of lost pets, proof of ownership, and international travel.

SHELTER SERVICES

  1. The shelter is open to visitors between the hours of 11:00am to 4:00pm, Monday-Sunday, 7 days a week.  On Wednesdays, we extend our hours and are open from 11:00am to 6:00pm. The shelter will accommodate visitors for adoptions, redemptions, and licensing on a first come, first served basis.

  2. We provide $25 microchipping services for our residents during business hours.

  3. We are not accepting healthy stray cats at this time, but we will continue to accept sick or injured stray cats, along with abandoned underage kittens. If you need assistance with cats in your neighborhood, please contact the rescue groups listed on the graphic below.

  4. We are not accepting owner surrendered dogs at the moment due to an increase in dogs at the shelter. Please contact the Lange Foundation at (909) 600-0738 or [email protected] - they may be able to assist you with your pet.

  5. We will accept all stray dogs from the City of San Bernardino, Colton, Grand Terrace, Fontana, Loma Linda, or Rialto but ask that residents check with their neighbors to see if they've lost their pet prior to contacting us or bringing the pet to the shelter. Most lost pets are only about a mile away from their home. Studies show that pets are more likely to be reunited with their owners when they stay in the communities where they were found.  Social media tools like Facebook, NextDoor and applications like Finding Rover are free to use and can help you get the dog home quickly without a trip to the shelter.
