City of San Bernardino Receives $5 Million
from State for New Park

Assembly Member James Ramos was on hand at the San Bernardino City Council meeting on Wednesday, October 18 to present a ceremonial $5 million check to the Mayor and City Council to develop a new 12.5-acre park as part of an affordable housing project.

The funding, approved by the legislature and signed by the Governor as a part of this year’s State Budget, was specifically requested by Assembly Member Ramos.

“I am excited to assist in moving this project forward by working to secure $5 million in the 2023-24 state budget for the City of San Bernardino to build a 12.5-acre park and community garden as part of an effort to build greatly needed new affordable housing units,” said Ramos. “I applaud Mayor Tran and the City Council for their vision and drive in pursuing this project.”

The City is currently working to develop a portion of the 44 acre Seccombe Lake Park, just east of downtown, with an affordable housing project. As required by the California Public Resources Code, a new park will be developed to replace any land used for the housing project.

Additional improvements will be coming to Seccombe Lake Park. Earlier this year, the San Bernardino City Council leaders committed $9 million along with another $1 million from the San Manuel Band of Mission Indians toward revitalizing Seccombe Lake Park. That project is currently in the design phase.
