High Winds Forecast for San Bernardino Area
on November 8 and 9

SCE has announced temporary Public Safety Power Shutoffs may be necessary.

The National Weather Service has issued a wind advisory for the San Bernardino and Riverside County valleys from 10:00 am on Wednesday, November 8 until 2:00 pm on Thursday, November 9.

North to Northeast winds 15 to 30 mph with gusts to 50 mph expected. Local gusts to 60 mph in wind-prone areas. Gusty winds could blow around unsecured objects. Tree limbs could be blown down. Trees and branches could be blown down and debris could impact streets and rights of ways.  Traffic signals may be flipped or become inoperative.

The strongest winds are expected Wednesday evening through early Thursday morning.

City of San Bernardino Public Works crews and equipment, including arborists, traffic technicians, contractors, and other personnel will be on standby.

Southern California Edison (SCE) has announced that due to the high winds, combined with locally dry vegetation, the risk of wildfire is high. As a result, temporarily Public Safety Power Shutoffs (PSPS) in certain areas may be necessary to protect communities.

Currently, shutoffs could impact approximately 16,000 customers in the San Bernardino area. Weather and other factors may change which customers are in scope and if, where and for how long they are affected.

SCE’s top priority is the safety of customers, employees and communities, which is why the PSPS is a tool of last resort. If power is shut off, every attempt to reduce the number of customers affected and the length of the outage and turn power on as soon as it is safe to do so will be made.

SCE’s online interactive outage map (sce.com/outagemap) shows areas being monitored for potential shutoff, and where power is currently off, in a map and through an address lookup tool. The site is updated with near-real time circuit status during PSPS events. To report outages not shown on the outage map, please call (800) 611-1911.

To report downed power lines, call 911.
