SBCTA Closes Frontage Road Between 2nd and 3rd

Streets Adjacent to the Mt. Vernon Bridge

The San Bernardino County Transportation Authority (SBCTA) has announced that on Monday, November 13, they have closed the frontage road adjacent to the Mt. Vernon Bridge between 2nd and 3rd Streets as part of the current phase of the bridge’s reconstruction. The frontage road will be closed permanently.

The frontage road will be closed to allow Southern California Edison crews to relocate utility poles and make room for construction of the new Mt. Vernon Avenue Bridge. During the construction activity, flaggers may be on site to help direct traffic around the work area. Residential access will be maintained via 3rd Street and Metrolink Way.  Construction activity will take place Mondays through Fridays from 7:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.

Please see the map below for a detailed description of the impacted area.

The new bridge will be completed and open to the public in 2025.

In the meantime, SBCTA and Omnitrans have partnered to provide a free bus service to the community while the bridge is under construction. The service provides hundreds of trips every month and is free while the project is underway.

Lastly, SBCTA has partnered with local businesses to create a bilingual business brochure and interactive map to highlight and support local businesses, many of whom have been impacted by the bridge’s closure.
